You’re Grounded

Hours of screen-less creativity

“You’re Grounded" is a coloring activity kit that’s aimed at creating a way for kids 12 and up to express and tap into their more creative muscles in the absence of screens. The kit contains 24 abstract coloring pages, 6 washable markers, and 3 rolls of decorative washi tape so the user can hang their art up.

The main goal for this project was to create an activity kit that would creatively stimulate my core demographic but not overstimulate them; a line that is often successfully towed through digital entertainment apps like Minecraft and TikTok. This project not only allowed me to further develop my illustration skills but it also taught me how to create a multi-element brand where each element shares in the brand’s overall aesthetic.

aesthetic development

While developing this brand, the hardest part was trying to craft an aesthetic direction that was unique and playful, yet contemporary and mature. I wanted to create a direction that would appeal to the maturing creative sensitivities and aesthetic preferences of older kids while also ensuring the aesthetic was engaging and wouldn’t seem try-hard or dated; I wanted the kids to feel like the brand respected their intelligence.
